Pleated Organza (Feather) Boa

Supplies

  • 2 strips of pleated silk organza
  • Upholstery thread to match organza
  • Handful of 15/0 glass seed beads
  • Invisible nylon thread

 Tools

  • Scissors
  • Beading needle
  • Basic Sewing needle

Step 1

Cut 2 strips of the organza, each 7/8″ wide. (Do not include any fray at the edge of the strips in your measurement.)

Step 2

Thread the regular sewing needle with a long strand of the thread and make a substantial knot on one strand of the thread. Run a continuous gathering stitch down the center of the strips making one long gathered strip.

Step 3

Starting at one end, make close snips into the organza through the pleats up to, but not including, the gathering stitch. Do this for the entire length of the strip on both sides. Pull the gathered strips together until it is snug, but still has some movement. Knot and cut thread.

Step 4

Cut a long piece of the invisible thread, thread the beading needle and knot one end.  At each end of the “feather” boa sew 3 loops of the seed beads. They can be the same length or different lengths, but make the strand at least an inch long so that the loops are at least 1/2 inch in length when attached.
